Ranking applicants with an ideal-candidate profile
How Emoti ranks inbound applicants against each role's ideal-candidate profile, how to change the profile, and how to advance, hold or reject applicants in bulk.
Applicants lists everyone who applied, ranked against each role's ideal-candidate profile. Emoti does the ranking. You make every decision.
The applicants overview
The Applicants page shows how many applicants are waiting for a decision across all roles, how many strong fits (a score of 80 or more) are waiting, and how much has been reviewed. Each role has a row with its new applicants, strong fits and progress. Strong fits waiting for you lists the highest-scoring applicants nobody has decided on yet. Choose Review to open a role's applicants.
The ideal-candidate profile
Each role has an ideal-candidate profile: the criteria every applicant is scored against. It sits beside the list, and each criterion shows how many applicants meet it. To change it:
- Switch Required on or off for a criterion, or remove it.
- Choose Add a criterion, pick a type (Skill, Experience, Location, Industry or Other) and write what you're looking for, such as "Airflow" or "3+ years leading a team". Emoti looks for those words in every application and marks what it finds.
- Before you save, Emoti tells you how the number of strong fits will change. Choose Save profile to re-rank everyone straight away, or Discard.
- Choose Restore the original profile to undo your changes.
Required criteria count double, and missing one caps the score at 54. Agree the profile with the hiring manager before you review anyone, so every applicant is judged the same way. See Structured, fair screening.
Review the list
Applicants are listed best fit first. Each row shows the fit strip, the score and status, where the person is, when they applied and how they found the role: Careers page, LinkedIn, Referral or Job board. Narrow the list with the tabs (To review, Advanced, Rejected and All) and the minimum fit menu (Any fit, or Fit 40, 60 or 80 and up).
Choose a name to open the applicant: Emoti's summary of the application, marked "Written by Emoti", and the evidence for every criterion under Against the profile. Use the arrows to move to the previous or next applicant.
Decide in bulk or one at a time
Tick applicants, or tick the box at the top to select everyone shown, then choose Advance, Hold or Reject.
In an applicant's drawer, the same buttons first ask why, with reasons such as Missing a must-have, Need more information or Strong evidence on the key criteria. Pick one, add a note for the team if you like, and confirm. The reason is kept with the decision and the name of whoever made it, and the drawer shows it, so the team can review its decisions later. Choose Back to review to undo a decision.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| New | No decision yet |
| Advanced | Moving to the next stage |
| On hold | Undecided for now, and still in To review |
| Rejected | Not moving forward |
No automatic rejection
Emoti ranks applicants but never rejects anyone on its own. A low score or a hollow segment on the fit strip is a reason to look closer, not a decision. See Reading the fit strip and Fair and responsible hiring with AI.
